Carol Rossi was on the faculty at Loyola Marymount University for 9 years and she now leads
workshops on yoga and meditation throughout the community. Carol is a certified yoga instructor and spiritual director, and holds M.A.
degrees
in both Dance Ethnology and Applied Experimental Psychology. In
addition to her yoga studies (which began in 1991), Carol has a decade
of training in diverse movement genres including ballet, modern dance,
traditional dance forms such as West African and Javanese dance, and
aerobics. In her day job, Carol is a researcher for a popular consumer website.
Carol's studies, practice, and teaching include attention to all
aspects of yoga:
postures, breathing, meditation, chanting, philosophy, and lifestyle
practices, which she presents in appropriate combinations according to
the needs of the individual student or group. Her group classes and
workshops include
breath-based postural practice, whether the students are young and
athletic, executing tricky vinyasa sequences, or practitioners who need
a more gentle approach.
Carol’s distinguished teachers have included the late Trish O'Rielly;
Sonia Nelson,
Director of the Vedic Chant Center in Santa Fe; and renowned yoga
therapist Gary Kraftsow, all of whom have studied extensively with
T.K.V. Desikachar. Carol has studied Iyengar yoga with Lisa
Walford. Carol is actively involved in the
Contemplative Way meditation group led by Dr. Jim Finley. She holds
certificates in both Spiritual Direction and Yoga Philosophy
through LMU.
Also a karma yogini, Carol is also a passionate contributor to the
local community. She is a co-founder and former chair of Positive Yoga
Los Angeles, an annual fundraiser for cancer research. Carol was the
Coordinator for LMU's Yoga Studies Program during its inaugural
year, has produced concerts for Krishna Das, and has been involved in a
myriad of organizations from arts education to feeding the homeless.
